Cecil Beaton Platter by Joanna Ling

£190.00

Having run the Cecil Beaton Archive at Sotheby’s for many years, ceramicist Joanna Ling has long been immersed in the work of one of Britain’s most acclaimed photographers and found inspiration in many different aspects of his work. Beaton said of his early portraits that the backgrounds were sometimes more important than the sitters themselves, and the photographer’s imaginative flair and theatrical eye meant that all sorts of backdrops and props were used in his work. These were often designed and made by him along with the costumes worn in the portraits. Spots, stripes and stars are a recurring theme as well as large swathes of silver foil. This platter is Joanna's interpretation of those elements. This work is currently on loan to an exhibition.
